The Enemy Within
Most organizations are cognizant of the insider threat, yet many simply consider this threat as a single type of actor, when in fact the insider threat is a grouping of several distinct adversary types. As each type of insider has different characteristics, a uniform defense approach is not effective. Rather, a variety of defense measures must be deployed
in order to be effective against the different types of internal adversaries. Presented by the elite organization of security researchers and consultants widely known for being the first company to hack the iPhone, this session will articulate the different types of internal adversaries and through case study analysis, provide attendees with actionable tactics
to effectively defend against each type.

Cloud Strategies in a Non-Profit Organization

This case study will present the strategies and projects used by the Retired Employees of San Diego County (RESDC) in moving from home-grown and manual methods to the cloud. RESDC staff of four provides information, benefits and services to nearly 7,000 retired county employees. In 2013, RESDC began a strategic planning process to improve all aspects of office operations and to improve member services and outreach through the use of technology. The complete redesign of the RESDC web site led the Board of Directors to seek additional web functionality that would better serve the membership and maximize office staff efficiency.

This presentation will outline the decisions and processes used in developing a technology strategy to support the Board’s long-term goals, with emphasis on the projects to move from the 1980s to the 21st century in technology. The focus of the presentation will be on the project to acquire a cloud—based membership management system. The application requirements include the capabilities for handling member rolls, mass email communication, online dues payment, online event registration/payment, and a member portal, as well as detailed management reporting.

The presenters are Mark Nanzer, Executive Director and Chuck Brown, RESDC Technology Committee Chair
